New NASRC Factsheet: Projected Growth of CO2 Systems

Our NEW factsheet summarizes NASRC food retailer demand for CO2 refrigeration systems for 2023-27.

As U.S. retailers transition away from high-GWP HFC refrigerants, the demand for CO2 (R-744) refrigeration systems is expected to increase significantly.

To prepare for the anticipated growth, we conducted a survey of 13 major U.S. food retailer companies to project the current and future demand for CO2 refrigeration systems.

Key Takeaways

• Demand for CO2 technologies will grow significantly by 2027.

• CO2 transcritical systems will lead new store builds.

• True demand for CO2 systems could exceed these projections.

We plan to expand and repeat this survey annually to continue tracking the forecasted growth in CO2 and other natural refrigerant systems in food retail applications.
